About
The boat is a Searunner 31 designed by Jim Brown in the mid-1960’s, constructed sometime in the mid to late-1970’s and launched in the early 1980’s. It was restored between 2008 and 2012.
I am a photojournalist who had the pleasure to work for many years with some fine people at some really great newspapers. Now I’m “living the dream” which means enjoying the benefits of some hard work and the good fortune to be alive and healthy.
En Pointe in honor of Sharon Vaughn-Lahman whom I fell in love with during the rebuild. This open-ended voyage is dedicated to her memory.

The outboard sled plans can be had from John Marple . Originally drawn by Jim Brown. Marples email has changed since I last was in contact. Might try writing Brown or Marples via Wooden Boat mag.
The frame is pretty easy to make and I used 1/4 foam for the planking then glass. Also extended and widened transom to accommodate my motor width.
Had a very talented fabricator make a more robust axle for it to ride on. His name is Gary Formo and he lives near Freedom, CA
I’ve had no issues with the sled and grateful for it’s simplicity and effectiveness.
